Goree Carter and his Hepcats, Rock Awhile (1983) r.1949-51
Wednesday's lunch record is "Goree Carter and his Hepcats, Rock Awhile" (1983) r.1949-51. This album is a collection of hot rythm and jump blues that was recorded on the Freedom label. Goree on guitar along with two saxophones, trumpet, piano, bass and drums. Many rock fans attribute his song "Rock Awhile" (1949) as the very first rock & roll record. Others attribute Ike Turner with his "Rocket 88" (1951) to be the first rock & roll record. His playing style influenced many other r&b guitarists, T-Bone Walker, B.B. King and Chuck Berry. The YouTube sample song is "Hoy, Hoy" (1949) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kP5iJPA5Ju4 . . . . bucko
