The Doors (1967)

Monday's lunch reord was the "The Doors" (1967). This is one of the premier rock albums of the 1960's. Radical blues rock with a taste of defiance. I spent many suspect hours grinding this one out blasting at volume 10 on the Montgmery Wards Stereo.  The songs "Break On Through", "Back Door Man", "Soul Kitchen" and "Light My Fire" were particular favorites. John Coltrane, Black Pearls (1964)

Friday's lunch record is "John Coltrane, Black Pearls" (1964). This music was recorded in 1958 but this album wasn't released until 1964. The entire second side is one song "Sweet Saphire Blues", an improvised jazz blues created to fill the album. Record producers are so demanding. John Coltrane takes care of buisness and blows that inovative horn of his backed by DonaldByrd (trumpet), Red Garland (piano),Paul Chambers (bass),and Art Taylor (drums) The YouTube sample song from this album is "Black Pearls"  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grdV-iNIsQs . . . . . bucko

Plenty of English musicians on this record including Ringo Starr on two of the tracks. Larry Coryell, Spaces (1971)

Tuesday's lunch record is "Larry Coryell, Spaces" (1971). This early jazz fusion album is a fine example of this new musical expression. The musicians on this album all went on to form other fusion ensembles. John Mclaughlin (guitar), Billi Cobham (drums), Chick Corea (piano), Miroslav Vitous (bass). Even with the pioneering into the rock bop fusion there is stoll stong ties to the main stream jazz line.Yhe YouTube sample from this album is "Wrong Is Right" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuadBNmIiPk . . . . . bucko

Fleetwood Mac, Future Games (1971)

Thursday's lunch record is "Fleetwood Mac, Future Games" (1971). This was the bands 5th album and the first featuring guitarist Bob Welsh and Christine McVie began her fulltime singing spot with the band. Tuesday's lunch record is "B.B. King, Completely Well"  (1969). This is the premiere blues album that should be the staple in every blues collection. Each song is performed powerfully soulful. Paul Harris on piano and organ, Herbie Lovelle on drums. Songs include "The Thrill is Gone", "Crying Won't Help You Now", Your Mean", along with others. Big Jay McNeely, Honkin' Sax Riffs 4 DJ's (1993)

Mondays lunch record was "Big Jay McNeely, Honkin' Sax Riffs 4 DJ's"  (1993). This album is the newest album to my record collection, received as a gift from a dear friend so today was my first ever listen. A work of honkin' from the master saxophone man  rockin' his chosen instrument of sceaming pleasure. An absolute treat for a Big Jay lover like me, not fare for the common unappreciative kind. The eight tracks are pure and simple Big Jay blowing his horn and what blowing I mean honkin' he does. There is no YouTube samples from this album but here is one from a 1994 show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KHDZEpXuyo . . . . bucko

Fleetwood Mac, Bare Trees (1972)

Thursday's lunch record is "Fleetwood Mac, Bare Trees" (1972). The new gitar player Danny Kirwan helped change the sound of this group into a  more pop commercial sound from their blues based origins. Their appeal to a larger fan base had some questioning their direction. Well written and performed numbers on this disc. I recall many of these songs like "Sentimental Lady" recieved nuch artime back in the early seventies. The YouTube sample song is "Child Of Mine" a nice rocker with a blues base.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5B0BYJSslG0 . . . . . bucko
