B.B. King, King Of The Blues (1974?)

Thursday's lunch record is"B.B. King, King Of The Blues" (197?). This reissue album is of an old Crown Record 5167 from 1960. The masters had been sold of their recordings leading to many great blues & R&B reissue sides of their other artists including B.B. The quality of the vinyl pressing and the cover is below budget. Even with the inferior packaging, delivery of B. B.'s music is always a welcome listen to this blues lover and everybody that loves the blues.. The YouTube sample is the entire album all ten songs. I still remember buying this in High School and although many nicesongs  I didn't think it was as good as previous albums after they lost Peter Green. More big fun with his big band a swingin' and Cab's vocals scatting and swooning his high jive. Friday's lunch record is " Cozy Cole And His Big Seven Play / Jimmy McPartland Plays Hoagy Carnichael (1956).This hazz treat is filled with top caliber musicians playing many of the classic standards of the time. "Caravan",Honeysuckle Rose', "Perdido", "My Blue Heaven", "Stardust", 'Georgia On My Mind". This remarkable album has the feel of these cats jammin' in an afterhours jazz club somewhere in the dark of the inner big city. Very fun  music, I like the small big band swinging sound. Thursday's lunch record is "Freddy King, Gives You A Bonanza Of Instrumentals (1963). This is a classic album of mid sixties blues rock instrumentals. It is unfortunate that he doesn't have vocals on this. The cover art is brilliant which desribes his outstanding guitar work. Silly titles for the songs which is typical for early rock & blues. "Low Tide", "Manhole", "Fish Fare", "Funnybone", how about "Surf Monkey" ? Regardless the names this is a fun rockin' R&B album on King Records. Fats Domino Sings Million Record Hits (1964)

Wednesday's lunch record we will listen to is "Fats Domino Sings Million Record Hits" (1964). This is a fine collection of Fats successful recordings. Fats Domino is one of the few blues singer musician that had become a mainstay in the fledgling Rock & Roll and  Pop indusry. His nusic is grounded in the New Orleans jazz jump tradtion. The best session men played on his many hits which were mostly written and produced by Dave Bartholomew. Songs include " I Want To Walk Yo Home", I'm Ready", "I'm Gonna Be A Wheel Someday" along with others. Monday's lunch record is "Cab Calloway Classics, Hi De Ho Man" (1974). This is fabulous double album compilation of Cab's big songs from 1935-1947. Todays listen is sides 1 & 4. His big band swinging hijinks have been delighting fans for 8 decades. Some of the tunes are "Hoy Hoy", "Jumpin' Jive", & "Jungle King" and "Calloway Boogie". Friday's lunch record was "Freddie King, Getting Ready (1971). This is an exciting blues album featuring the electric guitar of Freddie King and his mournful vocals. This album was produced by Leon Russell on his Shelter Records label he also plays piano on it. This includes some standards like "Dust my Broom", "Five Long Years", and "Walking By Myself". Thursday's lunch record is "Fats Domino, Cookin' With Fats (1973) r, 1956-62". This is a doulble album compilation of many of his mid 1950's records. Todays listen is sides 2 & 3. Almost all of his music was written, produced and recorded by Dave Batholomew at his studio in New Orleans. Many hot session musicians like "Lee Allen" blowing those saucy sax solos appear. Freddy King, My Feeling For The Blues (1970)

Monday's lunch record was "Freddy King, My Feeling For The Blues" (1970). A tremendous blues album by the dynamic Freddy King. His hot guitar playing is flaming the creative blues riffs that tear tight from his heart. The arrangements are by Donnie Hathaway. King Curtis blows the tenor solo on "The Stumble" and its classic King. Cornell Dupree on guitar, Jerry Jermot on bass, George Stubbs on piano and Frank Wess on saxophone.
