Friday's lunch record is "Sugarboy Crawford, James "Sugarboy" Crawford" (1984) r.1954. This is a double album collection of his songs that he cut for Lenard Chess in 1954 for the Checker label. Today we listen to sides one and two. Strong New Orleans blues and rythm & blues singer , With his band the "Shaweez" that was chaanged by Chess to the "Cane Cutters" because Lenard prefered it.  Snooks Englin  plays guitar and Frank Fields on bass, SugarBoy vocals and piano. His tight orchestra honking out their bluesy swinging jazz.Many super musicians featured on these tracks. Monday's lunch record is "Arnett Cob And His Mob - DinahWashington In Concert" (1977) r.1952. This is a live recording of one of the pioneers on the jazz saxophone. Arnett spent many years ib the Milt Larkin orchestra where he played alongside Illinois Jacquet. This is a nice intimate setting for an evening of jazz. Dinah joins his ensemble for four of the tracks.  Cootie Williams sits in on trumpet for "I Got It Bad (and that ain't good)". Friday's lunch record is "Crow Music" (1969). This album is from a local Minneapols Rock & Boogie band that was active in 1969-1972. They were a rough rockin' band that had much national success with their hit "Evil Woman". The band was originally named "South 40" in 1967-68, in '69 they brought in the drummer from the "Castaways" which hah the hit song "Liar, Liar" and cchanged the name to "Crow".  The YouTube sample song is "Evil Woman"

These sides were recorded at two dates in 1937 at the Savoy Balrroom.This is early big band jazz swinging hard with his tight rythm section and a full compliment of horns. Tommy is on piano leading a hot sextet that included six saxophones. These are based out of Chicago. He experienced mild success for a decade playing this hot jump music.
