Sonny Stitt, Goin Down Slow (1972) |
Wednesday's lunch record is by Sonny Stitt. A superb jazz man blowing that big tenor sax. The early seventies found Sonny at the height of his career. He is joined by great sidemen on the Prestige album. Thad Jones (trumpet), Billy Butler, Wally Richardson (guitar), Hank Jones (piano), George Duvivier (bass), Idris Muhammad (drums), Buddy Caldwell (conga) also a string section . Creative straight ahead jazz.
The YouTube sample song is "Goin' Down Slow" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsZJGZVRT28 . . bucko
