Cootie Williams, Rhythm And Jazz In The Mid Forties (1988) r. 1944-46 |
Tuesday's lunch record is the big band of trumpeter Cootie Williams. His own band was formed after his stint with Duke Ellington's orchestra. These tracks were recorded for Capitol and the Hit label. These big band jazz songs held that blues swing sound with hot musicians: Sam "The Man" Taylor and Eddie "Clean Head" Vinson on tenor saxophone. The YouTube sample song is "Bring 'em Down Front"
