Count Basie (1965)

Tuesday's lunch record is "Count Basie"  (1965). This reissue compilation on MGM's Metro label is an excellent collection of Counts big bands offerings. It is a jazz swing-fest with his tight rythm section backed by many of the best musicians of their day. Frank Foster (sax), Joe Newman (sax) along with many others. This intense swinging large jazz band is at it's best on this album. The YouTube sample song is " Softly With Feeling"  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUdQCh2CNG4 . . . . .bucko

Friday's lunch record is "The Dominoes, 21 Hits" (1976 r.1952-60. This fabulous compilation of Billy Ward and the Dominoes covers their golden years of 1952-60. This is top shelf vocal group harmony that drives that rockin' beat. The lead vocalist are Clyde McPhatter fronting the group then Jackie Wilson ttook the helm as lead vocalist. Each of these moved on to monster solo careers. The YouTube sample song is "My Baby's 3-D" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AY5_db5M6Lw . . . . . . bucko

Les Dudek, Say No More (1977)

Thursday's lunch record is "Les Dudek, Say No More" (1977). This album is a nice blend of commercial rock, pop with a funky overtone. Excellent guitar and bass playing spiph up this late seventies music. Well done horn arrangements complement the tracks. Another example of a fine musician that isn't a vocalist. It is a pleasant funky rocker that  is a fun listen. The YouTube sample song is"Whats It Gonna Be" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiXLGphWLrU . . . . . . . bucko

John Coltrane Featuring Pharoah Sanders, Live in Seatle (1965) / 1971

Wednesday's lunch record is "John Coltrane Featuring Pharoah Sanders, Live in Seatle"  (1965) /1971. This is a doulble live album. Recorded live in Seatle in 1965 not released until 1971 after John's death. Coltrane andd Pharoah share the spotlight on the sax. McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass and Elvin Jones on drums. The musical journey is atonal and very progressively expeerimenta, I honestly don't gey alot of this new expression. The YouTube sample from this album is "Out Of This World" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTz030Fa3Qg . . . . . bucko
