Jessse Belvin,Hang Your Tears Out To Dry (1986) r.1951-1957

Friday's lunch record is "Jessse Belvin,Hang Your Tears Out To Dry" (1986) r. 1951-1957. This is a very nice collection of Jesse's early work. Being a little known or remembered artist  outside of those with a love for rarly R&B or soulful jump music this paints a musical picture of his contrributions. His singing and music influenced many like Nat Cole, Charles Brown. He could lay down that rock & roll like his contemporaries, The Penguins, Richard Berry and the Flairs. Elvin Bishop, Hometown Boy Makes Good (1976)

Thursday's lunch record is "Elvin Bishop, Hometown Boy Makes Good" (1976). This Elvin's second album released in 1976 attempting to ride the coattail success of their smah hit "Fooled Around and Fell in Love) sung by Mickey Thomas/ This is a solid boogie blues rocker that Elvin's band is known for but did not match the commercial success as his previous entry. This is a very good rocker and good time party record. A bit of funky blues rock with a taste of reggae, the Tower Of Power Horns add a bit of flare to this party. The YouTube sample song is "Spend Some Time"  (Mickey Thomas sings) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZnFduGqgik . . . . bucko

Dave Brubeck's Greatest Hits (1966)

Tuesday's lunch record is "Dave Brubeck's Greatest Hits" (1966). This is a wonderful collection of the quartets incredible works. Recordings from the 1950's and into the 1960's. Of course "Take Five" is included along with "I'm In A Dancing Mood", "In Your Sweet Way", The fun "Camptown Races", "The Duke", The syncopated "It's A Raggy Waltz", from 1955 the brazilian flavored "Bossa Nova U.S.A.", "Trolley Song", the tricky 7/4 time "Unsquare Dance" and the difficult time signature of "Blue Rondo a la Turk". These songs are all cool jazz masterpieces that seem to get even better with ttime. The YouTube sample song is "Theme Frome Mr.Broadway"  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26xHoKjm2Ig . . . . bucko

Red Prysock, For Me And My Baby (1964)

Monday's lunch record is "Red Prysock, For Me And My Baby" (1964).  This album was the last one that Red Prysock recorded as a solo artist. He played on an album with his Brother Arthur  under his name inthe early 1980's. This is a little known recording with limited distribution. It is a quality jazz rock beauty that has that distintive "Red" driving swinging' beat. Most of the tunes get up and really cook, there are a few jazzy, soft sides, Red even sings on one of them.. Of course Red honks and screams that tenor of his to the delight of his listeners. The YouTube sample song is "Wildcat Part 1 & 2" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Hoi0YoDWUw . . . . bucko
