Friday's lunch record is an early recording of the rock band Steppenwolf. This is a live performance from 1967 at the Matrix in San Francisco. The band at this time played under the name sparrow. After some personnel change the band evolved into Steppenwolf. This album is on the ABC Dunhill record label. Musicians are John Kay (guitar), Mars Bonfire (guitar), Goldie McJohn (organ), Nick St. Nicholas (bass) and Jerry Edmunton (drums). Songs include "Power Play" (J. McKay). "Howlin' For My Darlin" (C. Burnett), "I'm Goin' Upstairs" (J.L. Hooker). "Corina. Corina" "Tighten Up Your Wig" (J. McKay) and a 21 minute version of "The Pusher". The quartet consisted of Mark Stein (vocals, keyboards). Tim Bogert (bass), Vince Martel (guitar. vocals) and Carmine Appice (drums, vocals).
