Houston Person, Sweet Buns & Barbeque (1973) |
Thursday's lunch record is by the tenor saxophonist Houston Person. This early 70's album is steeped in a soul flavored funk jazz sauce. He is joined by outstanding musicians. Richard Tee (organ, piano), Joe Beck (guitar), Ron Carter (bass), Grady Tate (drums) plus many others. They cover Leon Russell's "A Song For You" & "This Masquerade" and Joe Sample's "Put It Where You Want It" along with a couple tracks Houston Person composed.
The YouTube sample song is "Groove Thang" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2GXg9rr3Co . . bucko
