Elvin Bishop, Hometown Boy Makes Good (1976)
Thursday's lunch record is "Elvin Bishop, Hometown Boy Makes Good" (1976). This Elvin's second album released in 1976 attempting to ride the coattail success of their smah hit "Fooled Around and Fell in Love) sung by Mickey Thomas/ This is a solid boogie blues rocker that Elvin's band is known for but did not match the commercial success as his previous entry. This is a very good rocker and good time party record. A bit of funky blues rock with a taste of reggae, the Tower Of Power Horns add a bit of flare to this party. The YouTube sample song is "Spend Some Time" (Mickey Thomas sings) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZnFduGqgik . . . . bucko
